Ordination may be the
process by which folks are consecrated, that is, set apart as clergy to do
various religious rites as well as ceremonies. The process as well as
ceremonies of ordination differ by religion and denomination. One that is in
preparation with regard to, or who is undergoing the procedure of ordination is occasionally
called an ordinand.
The tradition from the
ordained monastic community (sangha) began using the Buddha, who established
purchases of monks and later on of nuns. The procedure of ordination within
Buddhism is laid down within the Vinaya and Patimokkha or even Pratimoksha scriptures.
There exist three undamaged ordination lineages nowadays by which one can
receive an ordination based on the Buddha's teachings.
Ordination of the
bishop is performed through several bishops; ordination of the priest or deacon
is conducted by a single bishop. The ordination of the new bishop is also known
as a consecration. Many ancient sources specify that a minimum of three bishops
are essential to consecrate another, e. grams., the 13th Canon from the Council
of Carthage (AD 394) says, "A bishop should not really be ordained except
through many bishops, but if there must be necessity he may end up being
ordained by three, and also the first of "The Canons from the Holy and
Altogether July Apostles" states, "Let a bishop be ordained by 2 or 3
bishops, " while the 2nd canon thereof states, "Let the presbyter,
deacon, and all of those other clergy, be ordained through one bishop"; the
actual latter canons, whatever their own origin, were imposed about the
universal church by the actual Seventh Ecumenical Council, the 2nd Council of
Nicaea, within its first canon. Here at http://oxfordministerialalliance.org/
